Going from learning to value creation with BUHR's graduates program

BUHR focuses specifically on recent graduates through its graduates program. The program gives participants a safe and structured start to working life, while also providing BUHR with new energy and new perspectives.

The program is also offered to BUHR's clients, for various industries and specially adapted to different disciplines, so that they can build competence and strengthen their attractiveness as an employer.

A holistic start

BUHR's graduate program is more than a recruitment initiative, it is a tool for building new graduates within HR as a professional field.

– The program provides a safe and good start for those who do not have much previous experience from working life, and they get to develop within a field they are passionate about. The program is structured so that throughout the year they go through the entire HR subject with various subject managers, while at the same time receiving close follow-up and feedback. They become well acquainted with the entire scope of HR, and can more quickly form an impression of what they want to focus their development on going forward, says Birte Tjørn Wahlberg, responsible for the graduates program.

Deltakere på graduates-programmet

Mari Andreassen and Jan Erik Gilje Jakobsen are part of the graduate program at BUHR. Birte Tjørn Wahlberg is responsible for the graduates program.

Birte has been responsible for the graduate program at BUHR since 2023, and can talk about the development and journey for the individual with zeal and enthusiasm. Here, the graduates get to participate in an incredibly wide variety of things, and, through the program, gain a breadth of experience that not many other companies can offer.

– Through our HR subscription concept, where BUHR works for many different companies, different industries, with many different issues, it provides a unique opportunity and innovation as a company. The graduates contribute a lot of commitment and new energy. They also contribute with their qualities and strengths, and also supplement our areas of expertise and our concept, in addition to the customer. This binds the organization together and we all contribute to their success in their development.

This year's graduates

In the fall of 2025, BUHR started a new cohort of graduates. Mari Andreassen and Jan Erik Gilje Jakobsen both highlight the learning curve and the community as particularly valuable.

– What has been most valuable to me personally is being welcomed so well and included in various tasks. After just one week, I was able to participate in a customer assignment, and after a month I feel like I have learned a lot. It gives a solid start to my career, says Mari.

– Being allowed to try our hand at tasks and projects provides a steep learning curve, but at the same time we receive close support all the way. Our colleagues understand that we are new, and knowing that you always have supporters is enormously reassuring, says Jan Erik.

Experience that lasts

Last year's graduates at BUHR also point to the value of such a start.
– The Graduates program has given me a comprehensive understanding of the HR profession, and it has been a very good and safe start to working life. Now I feel well equipped to stand more on my own two feet, while knowing that I have a strong professional environment behind me, says Solveig Klakegg Egeland.

Former BUHR graduate, Martin Anholt adds;
– HR is not just about adapting to change, but also about driving it forward. I have seen how good processes can make everyday work easier for all parties, and it is incredibly motivating to see the value HR creates when done right.

Graduate program for BUHR's customers

Birte Tjørn Wahlberg, responsible for the graduates program, is proud to also be able to offer the graduate program to BUHR's clients, within HR, but also for other fields.
– Graduate programs give companies a structured way to attract young talent. They gain access to new knowledge and can build much-needed expertise. At the same time, it strengthens the companies' employer branding, which is crucial in today's battle for the best resources. It can also be easily transferred to others.

BUHR can also tailor graduate programs for the client, to different industries and fields of study. The company works methodically with the client, mapping out the needs and tailoring a program that gives young graduates a structured start, while at the same time building the competencies they need most. This can be anything from IT and finance to marketing or technical subjects.
Wahlberg emphasizes;
– We can enter any industry, any discipline, and methodically map out how a graduate program can fit the customer.

Commitment that is contagious

For BUHR, it is a highlight to see graduates grow and develop throughout the year.
– The enthusiasm they bring with them, and the development they experience along the way, is absolutely fantastic. Often they don't even see it until we start a new round. Then it becomes clear how much they have learned and how far they have come, and the feeling of accomplishment is incredibly rewarding to follow, concludes Wahlberg.
